Albert Douglas “Doug” Sanderson, 81, husband of Geraldine “Geri” Hockensmith Sanderson, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born in Franklin County on May 3, 1937 to the late Orville Clay and Leona Newton Sanderson. He owned and operated Doug Sanderson and Son Plumbing and Heating. After retiring from his plumbing career, he served 9 years with the Franklin County Government.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sharon (Bobby) Scruggs, Beth (Mickey) Mills,Joe (Vicki) Sanderson, and Melissa “Missy” (Brett) Mills; his siblings, Betty Carrier, Jane Barnett, Martha Smith, David Sanderson, Wanda Carriss, Linda Moore, Judith Sanderson, Paula Round, and Rosemary Sanderson; his 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Daphne Scruggs Fields.
He was currently a member of Buck Run Baptist Church and previously a 25 year member of the Frankfort Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.
Doug was an avid bowler, winning multiple state and national championships. He also loved golfing with friends and family. He was a lifetime member of the Frankfort Elks Lodge BPOE #530 . He served several years as Chaplain for the Frankfort Chapter and was currently serving as the State Chaplain. He was a proud 1955 graduate of Elkhorn High School.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Buck Run Baptist Church. Dr. Hershael York will be officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Serving as casketbearers will be Bobby Scruggs, Mickey Mills, Brett Mills and grandsons, Robert Scruggs, Jason Sanderson, and Reed Mills. Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Buck Run Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Daphne’s Legacy, 494 Waddy Road, Waddy, Kentucky 40076.
