Verleen Lay Thompson, 81, widow of R. Gilbert Thompson, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 in Georgetown, Kentucky, with her family by her side. She was born on April 15, 1937, in Casey County, Kentucky to the late Vernal and Anna Games Lay and spent many years in Midway, Kentucky. Verleen was a member and attended Central Church of God in Georgetown. She was a former employee at Midway Florist, where she loved working with flowers, and worked for many years with the Union Underwear Company. Verleen, enjoyed quilting, crafting and loved Bingo with her special sister in law, Jane.
Verleen is survived by her son, Ralph Gilbert (Teresa) Thompson, Jr. of Frankfort, Kentucky, daughters, Shelia (Butch) Armstrong and Terry (Ron) Jenkins, both of Midway, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Jenny Thompson, Ashley Thompson, Aletha (T.C.) Reed, and Stacey (Chris) Lykins; seven great grandchildren, Nathan Agee, Matthew Agee, Hailey Reed, Parker Lykins, Owen Lykins, William Nowlin, and Charlotte Nowlin. She is also survived by her brother, Chester Lay of Georgetown, Kentucky, her step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Yvonne Sparks and Imogene Yount.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday October 16, 2018 at 10 AM, at the funeral home with Rev. Sam Glenn officiating with burial following the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
