Benjamin Green

September 12, 1925 — January 23, 2018

Versailles-Bennie Green, Jr., 92, passed away on January 23, 2018. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He had many jobs early in life to provide for his family, including working on the farm, owning a gas station, driving a school bus and managing a truck line. His greatest passion was his 50 year fire-fighting career, beginning with the Woodford County Fire Department as a volunteer in 1962. He later became the first full time employee of that department and retired in 2012 at age 86, after being chief for 27 years.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn Chappell Green; his two daughters, Donna Green and Debbie (Dale) Pierce; his four grandsons, Thad (Kelly) Baker, Dean (Carol) Baker, Mike (Susie) Pierce, and Adam (Sara) Pierce; and 11 great grandchildren, Jacob Baker, Grace Reed-Baker, Erin Beth Baker, Brittany Baker, Ty Baker, Micaiah (Joe) Ratliff, Christian Pierce, Hannah Pierce, Gabriel Pierce, Aryanna Przygoda, and Toby Pierce. He is also survived by his sister, Laverne (Herman) Pittman; sister-in-law, Doris Green; brother-in-law, Larry (Doris) Chappell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He also loved and considered "sons" the members of the Woodford County Fire Department. He would always worry about his "boys" when they were on fire runs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin Green, Sr., and Mary Cook Green; his sisters, Gladys Smith and Jewell Wilson; and his brother, Eugene Green.
