Betty Marie Shouse Young

Faith. Family. Friends. Betty Marie Shouse Young lived a life filled with grace, humility, and poise. As the second oldest of ten children, Betty was a staple in the lives of her younger brothers and sisters, those of whom she simply cherished. She was born in Mt. Eden, Shelby County, Kentucky on April 30, 1934 to the late Ellis "Jack" Shouse and Christine Warford Shouse. She passed from this earth on the 8th day of August, 2018.
On December 30, 1950 Garnett and Betty Young began a marriage that would last a lifetime. Making their home in Franklin County, Garnett and Betty were blessed with two sons, Jerry Scott Young, born in 1953, and Maurice Evans Young, born in 1960. Betty attended Bagdad High School and Kentucky State University. Betty is a retiree from the Cabinet for Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Betty Young proudly lived her life as a disciple of Jesus Christ and was a lifelong member of Beechridge Baptist Church. She was unabashed in her faith and God blessed her with a big family and an even bigger heart. She loved each of her brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, countless neighbors and friends, with shameless adoration. Betty Young loved to cook and host for her family and friends and used her gifts for hospitality for the multitudes.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her faithful husband, Garnett Young, her son, Jerry Young, her sister, Anna Jane Wright, and her brothers, Tom Shouse, Raymond Shouse, and Howard Shouse.
Her survivors include her son, Mariuce Young (Cece); her brother, Gary Shouse (Sandra); her sisters, Emogene Shelbourne, Hilda Parish, Bonnie Roberts (Kent) and Diana Parrish (Charles). She is also survived by her grandsons, JC Young (Kimberly) and Nick Young (Chelsey); and her great-grandchildren, Rylan, Kinley, Cahmi, Landon, Ann Hadley, Addi, and Brooks. Betty Young is eternally grateful to her special daughters Debbie Young Henry, Mary Ann Young, and Trish Shouse. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, the 11th day of August, 2018 at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with Reverend Chuck Umholtz officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Saturday, 11 August 2018. Serving as Pallbearers will be JC Young, Nick Young, Ronnie Shouse, Alan Taylor Shelburne, Danny Young, Mark Wright, and Daryl Young. Honorary Bearers will be Gary Goins, Joe Haydon, Doug Young, Vernon Parrish, Charles Parrish, and Ricky Young. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Beechridge Baptist Church, 9798 Benson Pike, Bagdad, Kentucky 40003.
