Bobby W. Barnes, 84, of Frankfort, passed away on February 5, 2018 at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Woodford County in 1933 to the late Ben and Francis Babit Barnes. Bobby was a member of the Army Reserves before working at IBM as Head of the Quality Control Lab. He was married for 56 years to Donna Barnes, whom he cared for during her illness with Alzheimer's until her death in 2013. In addition to his wife Donna, Bobby was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Hughes; brother, James Estill; sister, Mary (Johnny) Hulker; brother in laws, Earl Wayne Burton, Lloyd Thompson, George Smalley, and Doug Thompson.
Bobby is survived by a daughter, Beth (Allen) Tallent of Winchester; son in law, Mark Hughes; sister, Hazel Burton; sister in laws, Sharon Banta, Carrie Thompson, Irene Thompson, Margaret Smalley, and Joyce Thompson; brother in law, Glen Thompson; along with many nieces and nephews. As a devoted grandfather and family man, Bobby retired from IBM after 33 years to play an active role in his grandchildren's lives. Affectionately known as "Poppy", he adored his grandchildren, Gabe Penn of Prestonsburg, Caleb Hughes of Frankfort, and Taylor, Sam, Chelsea, and Mackenzie Tallent of Winchester, all of which adored him as well.
