Cecilia “Gyp” Whitaker, 98, widow of Martin Whitaker, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. A native of Franklin County, she was born on June 28, 1923 to the late William Ira and Nettie Osborne Florian. She was the head bookkeeper for State National Bank and worked at the Franklin County Senior Citizens Office. She was a label writer for Buffalo Trace, handwriting the labels for Blanton Bottles. She was a founding member of Trinity Baptist Church and later a member of Beechridge Baptist Church. Cecilia had a strong memory especially for numbers, she loved crafting, Gatlinburg and always up for “going”; she loved being around people.
She is survived by her son, R. Scott (Wendy) Whitaker, Shelbyville; her three grandchildren; one great grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice Hudson, Elizabeth Thurman, Edith Mitchell, and Ethel Eden; and her brothers, Roy Florian, Earl Florian, and Bennie Florian.
Family graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
