Mary Chappell Green

August 28, 1925 — July 8, 2020

Mary Evelyn Chappell Green, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 with both of her daughters holding her hands. Evelyn was born on August 28, 1925 to the late Richard Hayes and Lucy Esther Godwin Chappell in Versailles, KY. She was married to Bennie Green, Jr for 73 years before his passing in 2018. She graduated from Midway High School in 1944 and was the oldest living alumni at the Midway High School reunion in 2019. She loved being a telephone operator first for General Telephone and then Woodford Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church and also a member of Troy Homemakers Club for many years.

She is survived by two daughters; Donna Green and Debbie (Dale) Pierce; four grandsons; Thad (Kelly) Baker, Mike (Susie) Pierce, Dean (Carol) Baker and Adam (Sara) Pierce; twelve great grandchildren; Jacob (Janel) Baker, Brittany Baker, Micaiah (Joe) Ratcliff, Gracie Reed, Christian Pierce, Ty Baker, Aryana Przygoda, Hannah Pierce, Erin Beth Baker, Toby Dale Pierce, Gabriel Pierce and Ember Pierce, one brother; Larry (Doris) Chappell, two sister in law’s; Lavern Pittman and Doris Green and lots of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank special friends; Brenda Wright, Cookie Walls, Pam Morgan, Annie Wilson, Debbie Lafoe and Edna Tilghman.

In addition to her husband Bennie and her parents Richard and Lucy Chappell, Evelyn is preceded in death by sisters, Geneva Whitlock and Lillian Arnold and a brother, Hayes Chappell.

Funeral Service will be 1:00pm, Monday, July 13, 2020 at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Presiding at the funeral will be her grandson Pastor Mike Pierce and Pastor Dave Menser. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden; casketbearers will be Adam Pierce, Thad Baker, Dean Baker, Mike Pierce, Christian Pierce and Joe Ratcliff. Visitation will be 11:00am-1:00pm, prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 643 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601 or Taylor Manor Nursing Home, 300 Berry Ave, Versailles, KY 40383.
