Obituary for Ross B. Payton
Frankfort - Ross Baker Payton, of Frankfort, was born September 23, 1943, in Hartford, Kentucky and passed away September 15, 2018. He was the son of Elbert and Evelyn Payton, of Owensboro, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Kizzie Payton.
Mr. Payton received his undergraduate degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, Kentucky, his Master's Degree from Murray State University, Bowling Green, Kentucky, and his Rank 1 (30 hours above a Masters) from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was a music educator and educational administrator for 34 years. Throughout his life he was a member and leader in many professional and social organizations. In the past 30 plus years, his avocation has been working with and helping many men on their journey through life.
He is survived by his two sons, Dr. Andrew Ross Payton (Alison) of Los Angeles, California and Randy Cantrell (Holly) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Also surviving are his two brothers, Norman Payton (Wanda) and Roger Payton (Sharon). Mr. Payton leaves four granddaughters, Courtney Cantrell, Jahnney Cantrell, Jourdan Cantrell, and Hayden Cantrell. He leaves several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, 2018, with Rev. John Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Miller, Erik Vankleef, Jim Morris, Tom Trivett, Todd Wash, Tom Midkiff, Tom Wise, and Wood Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Pacey, Joe Pete, Dan Roberts, Stoney Brown, Patrick O'Neil, Tim Shyrock, Patrick Brooks and Billy Bob Taylor.
