Obituary for Samuel J. Burnette
Funeral services for Samuel J. Burnette will be Saturday, 12 noon, at Faith Baptist Church. Everett Hawkins will officiate with interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, 5-8 p.m. at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home and 11 am until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
He passed away at home Tuesday, Jan. 17.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Donna Dearborn Burnette and daughters Julie Burnette Perry (John) and Jane Burnette.
He is also survived by brothers Larry Bruce Burnette (Phyllis), Daniel Burnette (Amy) and Randy Broyles (Tammy) and grandchildren Aidan Perry, Rowan Perry, Erin Summers (Thomas) and Caci Hisle and a great granddaughter Lianna Royce.
In addition he is survived by brothers-in-law Gary Dearborn (Susan) and William Dearborn (Karen); sisters-in-law Delores Jean Dearborn and Jeannie Dearborn along with 14 nieces and nephews.
Sam was born May 24, 1948, in Alvie, KY. He is preceded in death by his mother Lillian Broyles and stepfather Glen Broyles, father Lemuel Burnette, sister Sylvia Woodward and brothers-in-law David Dearborn and Ronnie Dearborn.
Sam was a 1966 graduate of Frankfort High School and a graduate of Kentucky State University. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He worked for Kentucky State government retiring as a Director in the Department of Public Health. He spent the past nine years working as a special adviser to the Marshall County Health Department.
Sam was a family man, a loving father and indulgent grandfather and sports enthusiast particularly enjoying UK football and basketball.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kenny Dearborn, Charlie Burnette, Steven Burnette, Randy Broyles, Brian Bell and Chad Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be retired state representative Charles Siler, Beverly Dearborn, A.J. Donovan and Kay Harrod.
Remembrances may be made as donations to Faith Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.
