Frankfort - William Puckett "Sarge" Avery, age 69, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, March 6, 2017 with Chaplain Bill Lynch officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Masonic rites will be observed at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Hiram Lodge # 4 will open at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday to do courtesy work for Robert M. Sirkle Lodge #954.
Mr. Avery was born in Washington D.C. on December 27, 1947 to the late J. Edwin Dwight and Janice Puckett Avery. He was united in marriage to Pamela Jean Taylor Avery, of Frankfort. He was a retired Staff Sergeant E6 with the National Guard. He was a member of the Robert M. Sirkle Lodge #954 F&AM and the Lexington Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons, receiving his 32nd degree.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, David Avery of Lancaster, Kentucky, Rebecca Avery Cole, of Lexington, Kentucky and Stephanie Andre, of Nashville, Tennessee; his sisters, Cindy O'Connor, of Florida and Margo Newell, of Frankfort; and by his grandchildren, Caitlin Russell, Tristin Andre, and Madison Andre.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pierre Andre, Eddie Hortenbury, Freddie White, Doug Thomas Taylor, Tony Thompson and Michael McCorkle, Jr. Honorary pallbearer will be Trey Troxell.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517
